When Make-Up Goes Bad!!!

053

Cleaning your room or cleaning out your desk maybe a normal thing to do, but how about cleaning out your make-up? Not many people know that make-up does in fact go off. In this post I’ll be giving you the basic rule to when to start thinking about throwing out your make-up.

Lots of make-up artists give different advise and I’ve been told a lot of different things  by a lot of different people so I decided to put the degree i’m paying for to good use and do my own research.

Some make-up can be expensive so when we do spend the extra bit of cash on particular product we want to get the most use out of it we can.  Sometimes make-up companies only release items as limited edition and we want to keep it, but unfortunately make-up does have an expiry time.

Most make-up companies don’t print an expiry date on their products and nor do they have too so I’m here to help tell when to bin it.

Right lets get started….

-From what I gather from around six weeks of research for this post; Mascara and Liquid Eyeliner should not be used after three months of opening. After three months these products will start to grow bacteria and you don’t want to put that near your eyes.

-Liquid and cream, foundation and Concealer should only be kept for up a year. Many people I spoke to suggested discarding after six months but many other websites and people said up to a year is fine.

-Powder Foundation can last up to two years if you keep it dry.

-I read on many places that most things powdered (eye shadow, Blush) can be for two or three years but that all depends on how often you clean your brushes and on that note many people have suggested cleaning your make-up brushes two to three times a week.

Lipstick and Gloss only keep up too a year if you use it straight from a tube but if you apply from a clean brush every time it can last around 2 years.

Pencils items such as eyeliner and lip pencils can last up to a year, but this all depends on the brand. TIP: when it stats going hard and crumbly ditch it.

And here are some tips to make items last longer:

– don’t pump mascara to get more, just dip it in.

– sharpen you pencil products at least once a week.

– don’t touch your make-up with your hands if you can help it. (or use an antibacterial before you do)

– keep your make-up out of sunlight.

Disorganized, excessive, expired makeup is bad for your skin and could be bad for your health so throw out old make up.

Urban Decay Naked Flushed

Who doesn’t want a palette that’s small enough not to take much room in your handbag and has 3 products in one, and the main thing it doesn’t cost the earth.  This little palette fits in the palm of my hand and has the perfect shades for at home and on the go.

Battle of the blush

029

Blush can be one of the hardest things to find to match your skin. Their either to dark, to light or just make you look mike a clown and that’s just not a good look.

In this post I will be looking at different blushes from high-end to drug store. We all want the high-end names in our collections and we all fall for the hype, packaging, and names and a lot of the time you are paying for quality but there are times when drugstore products are the same and there is no need to spend over the odds.

Sleek Blush by 3 – Lace (pictured above)

I love this blush palette the colours are so pigmented but I do have to be very light handed with it or I end up looking silly. I really love the middle colour it’s a perfect dupe for the Estee Lauder blush called tease which was a limited edition so If you can’t get that get this its more than half the price and you get three blushes.

I’m going to this blush palette an over all 8/10 and the middle blush gets a 9/10

Dainty Doll Cream Blush -003

This can be expensive depending on where you buy it from, if you seen previous posts then you’ll know I didn’t pay much for this but if I did pick this up somewhere like Boots it would have been around £15.  I really don’t like this as a blush I know it’s made for pale people and I’m a very pale person but you get no colour pay off as a blush the only time you do is if you use it as a contour colour, if you use at as a blush it looks muddy, so it is good just not as a blush so it’s advertised wrong.

I give this a 4/10 as it’s not really a blush.

MUA Mosque Blush-English Rose

I love this blush, I may not give it as much attention as I used too but it’s still one of my favorites. Its an almost identical match to the Dandelion Box Blush by Benefit and costs only £1.99 compared to £23.50.  It’s perfect if your ultra pale like me as a blush but if your more tanned then its a nice highlight.

I give this a 10/10

Urban Decay Naked Flushed

I was really nervous about getting this, I’m an Urban Decay Junkie in my eyes they do nothing wrong but it’s been sold out everywhere for ages so I didn’t get a chance to try it, only had reviews to go on. I read that it was universally matched to the darkest and palest skin tones but I still didn’t know £20 is a bit pricey.

But then I got it for free (which I’ll discuss in the review to come) I like it so far but haven’t had it very long. The blush shade in there is lovely but be gentle because it’s very pigmented. The bronzer isn’t orange nor shimmery so it can be used to contour even my skin and the high lighter is nice. Mixed together they are lovely on the skin but be light handed.

so far this gets a 10/10. Pigmented and Practical.

Estee Lauder -Pure Colour Gelées Blush ‘Tease’

This was the limited edition blush I was speaking about earlier in the post with the Sleek dupe. The pure colour blushes or Gelées are always the quickest to sell out because they are stunning and unique. Tease sold out in the matter of days and I hunted the whole of south wales for this and I’ve been very fortunate to receive this as a sample to review.

The lasting power of this blush is incredible and you can achieve the fresh faced look with minimum product. You can build it as much as you like but it will always let your skin tone show through.

I give this a 10/10 I’m not sure if you can still get this but I can tell you most of Wales is sold out.

Seasonal Sale

013

Yes it’s that time of the year wear ‘Summer’ decides to roll in and almost every shop has its seasonal sale going on. I bought a few things while I was out today and I got some really great bargains I bought a lot and only spent £18 on everything!

I went to boots because I needed to get some more micellar solution and ended up getting one or two more things….

My Make-Up Bag

042

A few days ago I was asked by a few people on twitter what I keep in my make-up bag. I’m currently in the process of moving back home for the summer holidays for university so a lot of my make-up as already been taken back, so my current make-up bag is fuller than it usually is as it’s for everyday while I’m still in halls. I don’t usually carry this much but for the time being I am.

I’m going to insert pictures of the products, what their called, a brief description and if I can find the price I’ll insert that too.

(my make-up bag came with my Alien perfume by Thierry Mugler it came in a gift set for Christmas)

Make Up Essentials

I don’t know about you but I have a lot of make up, and I was thinking the other day if hypothetically I ‘lost’ all of my make-up in a freak accident where I would more than likely cry an awful lot. What would I replace? So I thought I’d write a blog post telling you.  I disscussed this with a friend the other day and we thought there has to be a few rules but we only thought of one rule and it’s pretty obvious really and that is the products we would be replace can not be limited edition.

These are my picks….

Aerin – Floral illuminating pressed face powder (Limited Edition)

003

Ever seen something in a store and just instantly want it so you go back almost every day to swatch it? Well I did with this product but I just couldn’t justify buying it it costs a lot of money! It’s £45 and yes I already know that’s a silly amount of money but it’s so beautiful and I had half of the price gifted to me so I only paid £20 of my own money on it. I’m so happy I have this the only problem now is its too beautiful to use….anyway on to my review and pictures!

In case you didn’t know Aerin is a sister company of Estée Lauder and aims to creat effortless beauty. I think it’s aimed at younger skin than Estée Lauder is.

Ohh I almost forgot to say it’s limited edition and I think it’s only sold in John Lewis or it is were I’m from anyways.
